A workshop and consultancy with Satya Smith)

Introducing chickens into an organic garden has many benefits…

Composted manure, activated mulch, insect and weed management, eggs, great company!
This is one of the greatest opportunities to teach your children about life! They will learn - how to handle a chicken, that eggs come from chickens not cardboard boxes in a shop, the reward of eggs, how to nurture another creature, a sense of responsibility -

You might give them a periodically increasing job in chicken care as they grow older, perhaps bring in mathematics and business education as your children learn about  business selling you the eggs that 'they grew' and as they do their sums on cost of food etc, price of eggs and discover how much 'profit' they can make - great for self-esteem building; and sometimes they learn other facts of life - chickens can escape / get killed by the neighbour's dog, run over by a passing car etc. opportunities of real-life experiences in a microcosm of life in your home yard.

Satya offers a “Chicken Consultancy”, which is crafted specifically to your organic garden layout, how to manage them effectively, resources required etc.

Topics are in the comprehensive list below.

For a do-it-yourself alternative www.citychicks.com.au can supply you with chickens (try before you buy), chicken houses etc.
